The University of Sheffield (USFD) was founded in 1905 as merging of the Sheffield Medical School, Firth College and the Sheffield Technical School. USFD is among the top 50 most international universities in the world, according to data from the 2023 Times Higher Education World University Rankings. We host every year more than 30,000 students and approximately 8,000 staff. The Insigneo Institute is a collaboration between the University of Sheffield, Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Sheffield Children’s Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Established for over 10 years, the Institute has a strong multidisciplinary network of over 290 academics and clinicians. Our aim is to drive innovative research at the interface of healthcare, engineering and science to transform the future of healthcare technology.
Role in Metastra
Within the METASTRA project, the Insigneo institute and the USFD will develop and validate computational models for the stratification of patients with vertebral metastases. We lead the work package 3, about the development of the data-driven and physiology-based computational models for predicting the risk of fracture in patients with metastases and to optimize their treatments. We will also substantially contribute to the other work packages for model validation, dissemination of the results, and management of the project.
